Kristina + David’s Organic Mexican Wedding

Travel has always been a part of Kristina and David’s love story. After falling in love in the streets of London, becoming engaged amidst the beauty of Big Sur, and traveling around the world for years, a destination wedding was a natural choice for their celebration. And after frequent visits to Cabo, they knew it was the perfect locale to celebrate with family and friends.

With pristine beaches and lush landscapes abound, it was easy to find inspiration for the aesthetic, palette, and design details of Kristina and David’s timelessly chic day. Jesse helped clarify their vision, putting the defining qualities of the destination at the forefront of the organic and natural aesthetic of every special moment.

The couple welcomed their attendants with personalized weave-totes full of some of their favorite quintessential Mexican items. This included a local Mexican cookbook, personalized bracelets and tasty treats to get them through the packed weekend.

Yonder Design created custom paper stationery for the event, including a personalized monogram with the couple’s initials. These personal touches added clean and modern elements to the overall design.

With a close friend as their officiant, Kristina and David wed in a private beach ceremony outside the One & Only Palmilla. The whole event was personal and touching, a moment to never be forgotten by the couple and guests alike.

Local florist, Pina Cate brought a wild and textured ceremony arch to life with soft garden roses, ferns and local greenery. The result was gorgeous and added a botanic touch to the striking ocean backdrop. The organic and clean look continued in bouquets of white and cream, with locally forged greenery bringing the garden-inspired inspiration together.

Ending the ceremony in style, the couple were serenaded by a traditional mariachi band as they walked back down the aisle. What a bright way to end the ceremony!

The reception was held at Flora Farms, an exclusive organic farm where guests are connected to the lush and unique surroundings. It was the perfect relaxed atmosphere and the brilliance of the natural setting continued to set the tone for the celebration.

Local touches were key to the overall design, including the escort card display. Locally glass-blown hearts hung on a garden-embellished custom ladder that appeared to grow out of the surrounding grass. This beautiful display, along with the florally adorned welcome donkey, added to the traditional elements.

Pulling texture and tone inspiration from the stones and earth within the venue’s landscape, the design was organic and served to highlight the gorgeous setting. The soft floral arrangements of every table coordinated, yet were slightly varied in height and style to add visual interest. Embroidered table linens and ceramic plates brought home the mismatched and organic Mexican vibe.

A farm-to-table menu was served family style and was complimented by local fruits such as mangos, guavas, and papayas, all sourced from the venue’s abundant land.

With spicy margaritas in hand and twinkle lights above, the couple and their guests danced well into the night. The couple knew they wanted to create an epic dance party, so they hired both a local band, the Kilometros, and DJ Jesse Kivel to play out the evening. Late-night bites of pizza and ice cream added to the experience.

Kristina and David’s fabulous event was incredibly inspired. With Mexican sunsets, ocean breezes, lush landscapes and loved ones, it was the perfect day. Every effortlessly romantic moment left us all full of love and fond memories.

Caroline + Nicholas’ Artful Japanese Wedding

Caroline + Nicholas, both intensely creative and purpose-driven people, take on the world and its challenges standing side-by-side. Meeting at their first job out of college, the couple has been through it all. From the foundation of companies to the discovering of dreams, their love has continued to thrive.

Photography by Norman & Blake

Every detail of the wedding was custom designed. From the gowns for both the rehearsal dinner and wedding ceremony, designed with Alon Livne in his NYC studio, to the stunning living floral sculpture worn by the bride at the ceremony. The draping effect of the greenery and white blossoms left us in awe. Lotus & Ash incorporated concrete, gold and lucite materials within the paper suite, adding to the modern and sophisticated style.  All of these details were inspired works of art.

The Benesse House overlooks the Seto Inland Sea, providing a picturesque and artful experience for Caroline + Nicholas’ wedding. With its multilayered art displays and blending of the natural environment, guests were able to engage with art and nature at every turn.

This coupling of nature, art, and design inspired Caroline and Nicholas, who were the first Western couple honored with the privilege to be married at the Japanese Art Sanctuary of Naoshima, within Tadao Ando’s Benesse House.

Caroline + Nicholas were proud to seek out talented vendors for their big day, surrounding themselves with designers and creators who reflected their values and aesthetic. And the result? Every detail was thoughtfully cultivated and reminiscent of their love. It was a romantic and incredibly intimate event, reflecting Benesse’s artful journey towards well-being and the love of the beautiful couple.

Tiny Atlas Creative Retreat

There is nothing more rejuvenating than time spent in nature, and here in California we are surrounded by such natural beauty that it’s key to take a step outside and use that beauty to creatively recharge from time to time. We recently had the unique opportunity to join Tiny Atlas’ creative community at one of their retreats, and we were beyond inspired.

Nestled in the canyons, surrounded by towering redwoods, coastal terrain, and fresh ocean air, we were led through workshops to flex our creative muscles in writing, photography and drawing. Days were spent in exploration of the natural beauty and our artistic voices. And nights were enjoyed with serenades and stories, building relationships around the fire. It was a true glamping experience that allowed us to fully recharge and reconnect.

Suzanne + David’s Day of Rustic Elegance

For their wedding day, Suzanne + David wanted a rustic escape that fostered intimate moments and romance. The Peace Barn in Bolinas, California provided all of that and more with its distinctly tranquil and unassuming vibe. It was the most effortlessly romantic and serene day.

Photography by Braedon Photography

The couple kickstarted their day with a distinct ceremony overlooking the grounds. A moss-covered tree was further adorned with florals and greens to provide a beautiful backdrop for their words of forever. After the intimate and heartfelt ceremony, guests then strolled to the charming barn, where they were met with fresh oysters and bubbly champagne.

After a fun group photo, the evening continued within. Amidst the organic setting of the barn, elegant chandeliers provided the perfect touch of sophistication. And Loop Flowers wowed with seasonal blooms that added a wild and organic feel to the day. The flowers paired with the locally sourced family style dinner resulted in a warm and inspired ambiance for all to enjoy.

A blue-grass band serenaded the guests into the night, where dancing and lots of laughter filled every moment. Sometimes you have to escape to reach those places of purest romance. And Suzanne and David’s beautiful day provided an intimacy that will not be forgotten, with laughter and love abound.

The Secret to Stunning Flowers: A Workshop with Tulipina

Images by Jose Villa

Nothing brightens a space like breathtaking flowers, and nobody does it better than Kiana Underwood of Tulipina. So when Jesse had the chance to team up with her and Jose Villa for a workshop in Mexico, he jumped at the chance. Jesse spent a few spectacular days with two dozen creative minds in Cabo san Lucas, playing with fresh blooms, striking color, and beautiful models.

Centerpieces and personal flowers have never been more striking or more smile-inducing — we’ll let Jose’s photos speak for themselves!

After an extensive (and totally gorgeous!) renovation, we were so excited to head back to Timber Cove for our end-of-the-year retreat with the Alison Events team. This seaside property, situated on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is everything a California bride could want: rugged, relaxed, sophisticated, a hippie chic-meets-modern hotel with ‘60s styling, indulgent farm-to-table cuisine, and a plethora of spaces for both indoor and outdoor celebrations.

Our retreat embraced that casual, woodsy vibe, with invitations that combined raw denim and cork, fresh and textured flowers drawing inspiration from the coastal setting, and a tablescape that mixed Timber Cove’s luxe lodge vibe with the property’s Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired architecture.

The rooms and suites, with stone and wood accents and a mix of ocean and forest views, are as inviting as they come. There are 46 rooms on-site, plenty of space for an intimate wedding weekend surrounded by your closest friends. Tuck 60 people into the Ansel Adams room, with panoramic views and a redwood deck, to immerse yourselves in the hotel’s history and identity as an artist’s destination.

Venue Spotlight: The Barn at Green Valley

SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-45

Tucked away in the hills of Napa Valley is a breathtaking barn venue like no other. The Barn at Green Valley is a secluded escape, a relaxed and welcoming property where you won’t know if you’re still in California or if the winding drive somehow transported you to the fields of Provence. Custom-built in 2015 for the owner’s daughter’s wedding, it’s now part of the Event Space Consulting family — and available to rent for your own wedding!

SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-17 SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-24 SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-61

The centerpiece is the barn itself, with a perfectly pitched roof, stone patio, and massive barn doors just begging to frame your ceremony. The covered veranda oozes refined Southern charm, just the place for cocktails on a warm Napa evening or an open-air dinner for a smaller crowd.

SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-41 SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-66 SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-103

Inside, the custom bar area is lit with vintage Edison bulbs, and the 8,000 square foot space easily seats 250 guests for a seated dinner or 350 for a standing reception. So whether you’re envisioning an indulgent multi-course meal (prepared in the property’s on-site catering kitchen!) or an evening of mingling and delicious libations, there’s space for everything. Follow the curved staircase up to the open-air loft, where you can sneak away for a moment to toast as newlyweds — or send the kids to play once the party gets underway!

SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-133 SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-88 SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-35

To really show off what the space can do, Jesse created an incredible shoot and opening party for some of our dearest friends in the industry. Found Vintage Rentals created the most inviting vignettes, Casa de Perrin helped set a stunning table, and Tulipina Design tucked breathtaking blooms on every surface. Élan Artists set the tone for an easy, relaxing afternoon, and Estate Events at Meadowood served an indulgent meal, delicious cocktails, and wine made from grapes grown on the property. And the incredible photography? Sally Pinera really outdid herself!

SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-2 SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-42 SALLYPINERA_ALISONEVENTS-102

The shoot itself captured the intimate, isolated nature of the property. Icy blue and misty lavender hues popped against the dark wood and warm leather of the space. Rich velvets and soft linen added a lush feel to the furnishings, and garden-inspired centerpieces dripped over the tables.

Looking to escape for your wedding (while still celebrating just 20 minutes from Napa Valley and 40 minutes from San Francisco)? Look no further than the Barn at Green Valley. We can’t wait to see what sort of stunning celebration takes over the space next.

Love in Color: Our 2016 Workshop in Burgundy Featured in Flutter Magazine

Flutter Magazine - Issue 10 - Sylvie Gil.pdf-1

Workshops and styled shoots are a way for us to flex our creative muscles, to explore new ideas and collaborate with exciting vendors and industry professionals. They’re a joy to be a part of no matter the setting, but when a workshop takes us to a chateau in France? That takes the cake.

Jesse Tombs headed to Chateau de Varennes in Burgundy (one of the top 10 wedding venues in the world!) alongside Sylvie Gil, Yonder Design and Holly Flora, and let the breathtaking venue inspire the fashion-forward shoot, with luxe, fresh details, juicy colors, and couture styling that seemed to be straight Paris. We’re so thrilled to share that the shoot was featured in Flutter Magazine! Destination Spotlight: Jumby Bay in Antigua

The third destination we visited with Katie Frederick from Ever After Honeymoons on our Caribbean scouting adventure was Jumby Bay in Antigua.

This Rosewood resort won me over. With its super great vibe, private island, fabulous food, bikes to ride all over the place, private homes as well as hotel rooms, this place would make for a great spot to hold a destination wedding. And the reception space is awesome! The restaurant overlooks the white sand beach where you can have the ceremony. Best to consider this spot for weddings under 100, so that everyone can stay at the hotel. Heart set on a bigger bash? You can rent homes and up the guest list.

Destination Spotlight: Viceroy Anguilla Resort

Earlier this week we shared photos and scoop from our trip to the British Virgin Islands with Katie Frederick from Ever After Honeymoons. Today, we’re on to Anguilla, where we’re spotlighting the Viceroy Anguilla Resort.

This is a larger hotel that’s actually super easy to get to from New York City and perfect for larger destination weddings in the Caribbean. Great food, amazing beaches and pools, daily yoga, private estates, and a restaurant overlooking the sea. I love that everyone can stay there together (up to about 200 people) and there are several different event spaces to choose from.
